The Virginia Beach Convention & Visitors Bureau (CVB) is prepared for another exciting USA Fencing North American Cup (NAC) tournament as the event returns to the Convention Center this week for four days of action-packed swordplay. The tournament was previously held in Virginia Beach in 2012 and 2014.

The NAC serves as one of the final U.S. qualifying events for athletes seeking to represent Team USA at the Junior and Cadet World Championships in April and the Senior World Championships in July.

More than 1,800 world-class athletes will face off in a variety of levels of competition including Division I Epee, Division I Foil & Saber, Junior, Wheelchair and Senior Team Division. Players will represent more than 41 domestic states and territories and seven countries including Algeria, Korea, Mexico, Turkey and Singapore. Among the expected athletes expected to compete during the NAC are nine Olympic medalists.

Beginning Friday afternoon, Jan. 5 and continuing through Monday, Jan. 8, the NAC will occupy the Center's entire 150,000 square foot expo hall along with 31,000 square feet of ballroom space as more than 60 fencing strips (areas of play) run simultaneously. The full schedule of events may be found at

An estimated 2,700 room nights are booked to house the athletes, staff and spectators. The CVB is providing motor coach shuttle service to and from 14 participating hotel properties and the Convention Center, which is located at 1000 19th St., Virginia Beach, VA 23451.

The public and media are invited and encouraged to attend this free spectator event. Interviews with USA Fencing officials and athletes can be scheduled by contacting CVB PR Specialist Teresa Diaz, APR at (757) 642-0099 for more information.
