*UPDATED* Police Seek Witnesses of a Serious Hit and Run Crash

On January 10th 2018 26-year-old Tyeler Hutton of Virginia Beach was arrested and charged with:  felony hit and run resulting in death,  reckless driving, driving on a suspended/revoked operators license, no seatbelt and possession/transport of a firearm by a convicted felon.  



The victim of this hit and run accident succumbed to his injuries later in the day on January 1st 2018.  The decedent has been identified as 40-year-old Thomas Gordon Hitt​ of Virginia Beach.

The investigation is still ongoing at this time.


​On January 1st 2018 at approximately 1:40am Virginia Beach Emergency Communications received a call for an accident near the intersection of South Independence Boulevard and Bonney Road. Police, Fire, and EMS personnel responded to the scene.

This was a two vehicle accident that involved a white Dodge Durango and a gray Ford Focus.  The driver of the Durango fled the scene of the accident on foot, while the driver of the Ford Focus sustained life threatening injuries.

The driver of the Dodge Durango has not yet been identified.

This crash is being investigated by the Virginia Beach Police Departments Fatal Crash Team (FACT), with MPO T. Ai​cher​ as lead investigator.  If you witnessed the crash, or saw someone flee the scene of the accident, you are encouraged to contact MPO T.J. Aicher at TAICHER@vbgov.com.
