Commonwealth v. Hasaan Lorenzo Gordon; 17 Years to Serve for Shooting Man Three Times with his Own Gun

Monday, December 18, 2017

Colin D. Stolle, Commonwealth's Attorney for the city of Virginia Beach, announced today that Hasaan Lorenzo Gordon, 20 years old, of the 1200 block of Old Clubhouse Road in Virginia Beach, Virginia, was sentenced today for charges of Malicious Wounding, Use of a Firearm, and Possession of a Firearm by a Non-Violent Felon. Circuit Court Judge Glenn R. Croshaw sentenced Gordon to 28 years in prison with 11 years suspended leaving 17 years to serve.

Had this matter gone to trial, the Commonwealth's evidence would have proven that on October 29, 2016, a man, eventually referred to as the victim in this case, loaned his firearm to a friend.  The friend brought the firearm to a Norfolk State University homecoming party that was also attended by Hasaan Lorenzo Gordon.  The friend believed that Gordon stole the firearm from his vehicle during the party, and notified the owner of the gun about this theft.  The next day, the victim and the other male learned that Gordon lived on Old Clubhouse Road in Virginia Beach, and drove there to try to retrieve the stolen firearm.

Gordon was walking down Old Clubhouse Road at approximately 8:00 p.m. when the victim confronted him. The victim punched Gordon in the face and a struggle ensued.  The victim recognized his gun in Gordon's waistband.  Gordon reached for that firearm while the victim tried to prevent him from grabbing it.  Gordon then shot the victim twice in the stomach.  Gordon turned to leave, then turned around and walked back toward the victim and shot him a third time.  The victim survived the shooting.  Gordon was located a few days later in Nassau County, New York, and was extradited back to Virginia Beach.

Gordon has prior convictions for Unauthorized Use of a Motor Vehicle and Grand Larceny.
