As part of its fourth annual Election Day Block Party, Virginia Beach's Bayside Area Library branch is celebrating its 50th anniversary, Tuesday, Nov. 7, 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Children's activities, some with '60s themes harkening back to when the branch opened, include lava lamp and flower headband crafts, a space exploration room, moon bounce, face-painting, a strolling magician, police and fire vehicles, games, and local costumed characters including the Chick-fil-A Cow.

Adults will find their own fun with activities including a scavenger hunt, macramé craft and bingo. Everyone will enjoy performances by the U.S. Navy TRADOC Band, Bayside High School dance group and School of Rock. Photos and mementos highlighting the library's 50-year history will be on display.

Cake and light refreshments will be served while supplies last. Pizza will be available to purchase on site from Taz's Pizzeria.

Bayside Area Library is located at 936 Independence Blvd. in Virginia Beach. The event is free and open to the public. For information, call 385-2680.
