Voter Registration and Absentee Voting Information for Nov. 7 General Election

On Tuesday, Nov. 7, Virginia Beach residents will cast their ballots in the General Election for Governor, Lieutenant Governor, Attorney General, House of Delegates, Commonwealth's Attorney, Sheriff, Commissioner of Revenue and Treasurer. 

There are seven different ballot styles in Virginia Beach for this election. The ballot style you receive is determined by the House of Delegates District in which you are registered to vote. For specific information including sample ballots and polling locations, visit

The deadline to register to Vote is Oct. 16.

The Constitution of Virginia requires that voters be registered to vote in the precinct in which they live in order to be qualified to vote.

To be eligible to vote on Nov. 7, those not registered, or any registered voter who needs to make a change to their registration address or name, must submit a Voter Registration Application no later than close of business on Monday, Oct. 16. Mailed Voter Registration Applications must also be post-marked on or before Oct. 16.

Residents may register In-Person at the Voter Registration & Elections office, all Virginia Beach Public Library locations, and Virginia Beach Department of Motor Vehicles Offices (in conjunction with DMV transactions) during normal hours of operation. Absentee ballot applications must be received by mail, email, fax or online by 5 p.m., Tuesday, Oct. 31. Saturday, Nov. 4, by 5 p.m. is the last day for absentee voting in-person.
