Pedestrian accident at the Oceanfront

Thursday, September 07, 2017

On Thursday, September 7, 2017 at approximately 10:48 a.m. Officers responded to the 2400 block of the Oceanfront on the beach for a report of individual who had been struck by a vehicle. Officers arrived on scene to find lifeguards rendering assistance to the victim. Preliminary investigations have determined that a civilian 4-door pickup truck had struck an adult female who was sitting in a beach chair in the sand. The woman was transported to a local hospital with what is being reported as significant injuries.

Investigators have determined that the operator of the truck, a contractor that works with several different event organizers, was near the seawall picking up equipment from a recent weekend event.  When he attempted to turn around is when the truck collided with the victim.

As this case involves serious injuries and a vehicle is involved, it is being investigated by members of the department's Fatal Crash Team.

Additional information will be provided once they become available.
