The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) has activated the Virginia Beach based Urban Search and Rescue Team, Virginia Task Force 2 (VA-TF2), to deploy to Texas. VA-TF2 is one of 28 FEMA Urban Search and Rescue Teams positioned across the country. The Virginia Beach Fire Department is the sponsoring agency for VA-TF2.

The exact location in Texas where the team will be working has not been determined yet but VA-TF2 is leaving Virginia Beach this evening.  VA-TF2 has conducted search and rescue operations in the aftermath of numerous hurricanes. Most recently the team conducted search and rescue operations for Hurricane Matthew and Joaquin.
