Man Injures Self After Being Confronted By Officers

Friday, August 11, 2017

On Friday, August 11, 2017 at approximately 11:58 a.m., Officers were in the 300 block of 20th Street to attempt to serve several outstanding felony warrants on a man at the location.  The suspect ran and the officers pursued him for a short distance when the man abruptly stopped, produced a knife and threatened to harm himself.  Officers negotiated with the man to drop the weapon and then attempted to disarm him using a less lethal weapon in an attempt to save the man's life.  The man then committed an intentional act, harming himself.  Officers immediately began life saving measures on the man.  An off duty EMS worker nearby joined in to assist with these efforts.   The man was transported to a local hospital with life-threatening injuries.
