Commonwealth v. Randall John Pilon; Middle School Teacher Sentenced to 6 Years for Internet Solicitation of Minor

Tuesday, October 11, 2011

Harvey L. Bryant, Commonwealth’s Attorney for the City of Virginia Beach, announced today that Randall John Pilon, 55 years old, previously residing in the 3300 block of Waterman Road in Virginia Beach, was sentenced by Circuit Court Judge William R. O’Brien for charges of Indecent Liberties (Attempt) and Propose Sex Act by Communication System- Victim under age 15 (Attempt). Judge O’Brien sentenced Pilon to 15 years in the Department of Corrections with nine (9) years suspended, leaving six (6) years to serve. Pilon pled guilty on April 27, 2011.

Had this matter gone to trial, the Commonwealth’s evidence would have proven that in May 2010 an undercover officer with the Kenton County (Kentucky) Police Department had been contacted by a user with the screen name of “nudistteacher2000” in an online chat room.  The user was later identified as Randall John Pilon, a seventh grade teacher at Salem Middle School in the City of Virginia Beach.  The undercover officer used the online persona of a 14-year-old female from Kentucky named Sherry.  Pilon engaged in several chat sessions with “Sherry” and suggested to “Sherry” that the two of them go camping together, date, and kiss.  Pilon utilized his webcam to expose himself to “Sherry” and eventually offered to purchase a webcam for her.  In the online chats, Pilon indicated that he was much older than “Sherry” and asked “Sherry” whether she thought he was evil.  The undercover officer in Kentucky was able to determine the identity of “nudistteacher2000” and contacted officers with the Virginia Beach Police Department.  Computer media seized by the police from Pilon’s home was found to contain multiple images of child pornography.

Senior Commonwealth’s Attorney Andre J. Rosenberg prosecuted the case.  Please call Macie Pridgen if additional information is desired.
