August is full of fun with Virginia Beach Parks & Recreation

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. – Summer fun for the whole family continues in August with Virginia Beach Parks & Recreation. From movie night at Mount Trashmore to rock wall climbing with the family, we're making every minute of our favorite season count before the new school year begins.

Movie Night: Trolls
(Aug. 25 | rain date Aug. 27 | 7 to 10 p.m. | Mount Trashmore Park)
Get ready to sing along under the stars as we watch "Trolls" on our giant screen from the comfort of Mount Trashmore's grassy slope. Bring lawn chairs, blankets, and of course family and friends! Food will be available for purchase.

Back to School Festival
(Aug. 25 | 1 to 4 p.m. | Williams Farm Recreation Center)
Before you put the kids back on the bus for the new school year, come on out to Williams Farm for a block party-style day of games, competitions, face painting, bounce houses and refreshments! Come early for door prizes and our annual school supply giveaway (while supplies last) Virginia Beach Parks & Recreation is also collecting school supplies at Williams Farm all month leading up to this event to distribute to attendees. 

Students on the Swim: Swimsuit Drive
Virginia Beach Parks & Recreation is committed to helping children learn to swim  through the Students on the Swim (SOS) program for second graders in Title I schools. Help these participating youth by donating a new swimsuit at any Virginia Beach recreation center through Aug. 31. Swimsuits must be new with retail tags still on them. Both boys and girls styles are needed. Monetary donations can also be made to the SOS program through the VB Parks & Recreation Foundation

A Recreation Center membership or day pass and registration is required unless otherwise noted.

Float-a-Rama
(Aug. 6 | 1 to 4 pm | all ages | Bayside  Recreation Center)
Dive in to a great time where we fill the pool with giant floats that you can climb, slide, splash and play on. Experience Claw Daddy, Sky Totter, Space Mountain and more! Children under age 9 must be accompanied in the water by a responsible adult, age 16 or older.  No additional cost or registration required.

Water Polo Clinic
(Aug. 19 | 2 to 3:30 p.m. | ages 10 to 17 | Bayside Recreation Center | $16)
Do you like basketball, soccer and swimming? Then try water polo! These clinics will introduce you to the basic skills of this physically challenging and exciting sport. This is the perfect jumping off point to get involved in our water polo league, so check it out! Register now.

Rock Wall Fun! Get Hooked on Climbing
(Aug. 24 | 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. | ages 6 & up | Seatack Recreation Center | $8)
Bring the family for a heart pumping session of rock climbing on our vertical wall. Assistance will be provided by two belayers who will help climbers traverse the wall. All experience levels welcome! Register online in advance to reserve your spot.

Coed Adult Sand Football League (registration runs Aug. 28 to Sept. 11)
Sand Football is a non-contact, coed flag league that is offered in both the spring and fall. The game is played 6 on 6 with a minimum of two females on the field at a time. Teams may carry up to 15 players. Games consist of two 40-minute halves and are played on the beach at the Oceanfront on Sunday mornings.
