Saturday, June 24, 2017

On June 24, 2017 at 7:06 p.m., A police officer working in the Third Precinct of Virginia Beach Police Department attempted a routine traffic stop on a vehicle in the 400 block of N. Witchduck Road /5000 block of Erskine Street. The vehicle appeared to routinely pull over and then subsequently fled the traffic stop location. The police officer discontinued the traffic stop and did not pursue the vehicle. The police officer left the location of the traffic stop and proceeded the same direction that the suspect vehicle had fled. The police officer then located the suspect vehicle from the traffic stop. The vehicle had left the roadway causing property damage to a fence and struck a residence in the 4900 block of Rachel Street. Fire crews responded and the residence was deemed structurally safe for the resident to remain at the house. The passenger in the vehicle was detained at the scene by police. The driver fled on foot and after an extensive search was located and is in custody. At this time it is still very active case and charges will be forthcoming for the suspect driver. This case remains under investigation by officers of the Third Precinct.
