Sandler Center Art Gallery Hosts Old Dominion University Student Art Exhibition May 30 through June 29, 2017

Tuesday, May 30, 2017

The Sandler Center for the Performing Arts is proud to announce that it will host Old Dominion University Student Art Exhibition from May 30 to June 29, 2017.

The exhibition is comprised of work by student selectees for the 2017 Old Dominion University Undergraduate Research Symposium, which took place on the university's campus in February. Each year, the Honors College hosts a research symposium at which the research activity of selected undergraduate students is showcased. Art is one of the disciplines included in the research symposium.

Faculty mentors are also identified as providing assistance and mentorship to the students. Faculty in each area of specialty within the art department are asked to select one to three students who have excelled at their work and are able to establish a research basis for what they do. Areas represented include drawing, metals, painting, photography, printmaking, sculpture, and graphic design. It is a great opportunity for the students to further advance their ideas while exposing their work to a larger audience.

The exhibit will be on view in the second and third floor lobbies from May 30 through June 29 during the Sandler Center's normal operating hours: Monday to Friday, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.; Saturday 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. or during any performance at the Sandler Center.

There will be a free artist reception held at the Sandler Center on June 8, from 6 to 8 pm.  The Art Gallery is on the second and third floors in the common areas of the Sandler Center for the Performing Arts.

The role of the Office of Cultural Affairs is to develop the vision and direction of the cultural arts in Virginia Beach, assist and direct the Virginia Beach Arts and Humanities Commission, coordinate the city's Public Art Program, provide contract management for the Sandler Center for the Performing Arts, serve as the liaison with Virginia MOCA and the ViBe Creative District, and serve as a resource to local arts and humanities organizations.
