June is bringing the heat with a hot schedule of awesome events

With summer on the horizon, Virginia Beach Parks & Recreation is heating things up with a wide range of events and activities to usher in the new season. Water safety classes, carnival rides, beach concerts and more are sure to kick things off right for local children, seniors, and families!

Mount Trashmore Summer Carnival
(June 2 to June 20 | hours vary | Mount Trashmore Park)
Rides, games, and delicious fair foods are all available Mount Trashmore Summer Carnival. Located in the parking lot off of Edwin Drive, the carnival is a treat for all ages and offers free admission and free parking. For hours, ride information, and prices, visit VBgov.com/carnival. 

Royalty Steppers Auditions
(June 4 to June 20 | 2 to 4 pm | Bow Creek Rec Center)
We're looking for steppers ages 6 to 17 to join our Bow Creek Royalty Steppers troop! Come out to "audition" (everyone who comes will be welcome to join the team); no prior step experience is required. The Royalty Steppers are a performance-based company. Rehearsals are Sundays from 2 to 4 pm at Bow Creek. A recreation center membership is required to participate.

Mary Helen Thomas Day – Free Water Safety Lessons
(June 10 & 11 | ages 4 to 12)
Did you know drowning is one of the leading causes of death for children ages 1 to 4 in Virginia? Be water safe and join us for a free water safety lesson as we get ready to splash into summer and celebrate Mary Helen Thomas Day! Space is limited so register online to reserve a spot. This event is presented in partnership with the Mary Helen Thomas Water Safety Council

June 11 | Williams Farm and Princess Anne Rec Centers, 1 - 2:30 pm

Kick off your shoes, bring your friends and join us for a concert in the sand with live music by The Rhondels, plus food trucks and dancing! If you love awesome live music and the beach, then this party is for you!  Food will be available for purchase. Onsite parking is free after 5 pm. 

Seatack Community Day
(June 16 | 8:30 am to 8:30 pm | Seatack Rec Center)
Join us at Seatack Recreation Center for a FREE day of fun and activities including pickleball, a basketball tournament, rock wall climbing, a movie in the pool, and more! There will be activities running throughout the day, but a list of scheduled events can be found on the Facebook event

Kempsville Community Recreation Center Grand Opening Weekend
(June 29 to July 2 | Kempsville Rec Center)
The time is almost here for the long awaited grand opening of the brand new Kempsville Community Recreation Center. Following the official opening ceremony, we'll open the doors to the public through July 2. Guests will be able to swim, workout, take tours, play in the indoor game area, and just enjoy all that the center has to offer. Saturday, July 1 will also feature fitness demos, food trucks, giveaways and lots of other excitement! View the Facebook event for details.

Certified Lifeguard Interviews
(June 4 | 11 am  to 1 pm | ages 16 & up | Bow Creek Rec Center)
Dive in for an awesome job keeping the waters safe in our rec centers! We are searching for certified lifeguards ages 16 & up to fill openings at all of our recreation centers. The interview will consist of three parts: water skills, CPR skills, and verbal question & answer. All of the information to prepare for the interview can be found on the Facebook event.
