Library Dedicates New Teen & Tech Space at Kempsville Branch

What: Virginia Beach Public Library (VBPL) is hosting a dedication for a new teen and tech space at Kempsville Area Library. The event includes remarks by community leaders, ribbon cutting, light refreshments and demonstrations of new technologies in the space. The ceremony honors the memory of longtime library customer Patty Landrum, whose estate donated $24,408 to the Friends of Virginia Beach Public Library for use at the Kempsville branch, funding the new space. The event is free and open to the public.

Who: Speakers include City Council Member Jessica Abbott; Library Director Eva Poole;  Lynne E. James, grand worthy matron, grand chapter of Virginia, Order of the Eastern star; Anna Lestik, teen librarian at VBPL.

When: Saturday, May 13, 2017, 11 a.m. to noon.

Where: Kempsville Area Library, 832 Kempsville Road, Virginia Beach

More: The multipurpose space offers learning opportunities for adults during the daytime and a fun, creative environment for teens, after school and in the evening. It features new furniture, gaming equipment including Playstation Four Pro with 17 games, Wii U, two 27-inch iMac computers with iRig keyboards for creating music, a Wacom Intuos art tablet and a 65-inch iNFocus JTouch interactive display with Light Casting capability and white board for collaborative learning. A Virginia Beach Public Library card is required to use the equipment.
