Voter Registration and Absentee Voting Information for the June 13 Party Primary Elections

​Primary Elections will be held for Governor, Lieutenant Governor and the House of Delegates 21st District for the Democratic and Republican parties. There will also be a Primary Election for the House of Delegates 81st District and 83rd District for the Democratic Party only. Virginia law only allows you to vote in one of the party primary elections. You must indicate in which party primary you would like to vote on Election Day or when you request an absentee ballot in-person or by mail.

There are six different ballot styles in Virginia Beach for the party primary elections. Ballot styles are determined by your voting precinct. For specific information including sample ballots and polling locations, please visit

The Constitution of Virginia requires that voters be registered to vote in the precinct in which they live in order to be qualified to vote.

To be eligible to vote in either of the Party Primary Elections held on Tuesday, June 13, 2017, residents must register to vote or submit any change of address no later than close of business on Monday, May 22, 2017. Mailed voter registration applications must be postmarked on or before Monday, May 22, 2017.

In-Person Voter Registration is available at the Voter Registration & Elections office, all Virginia Beach Public Library locations, and Virginia Beach Department of Motor Vehicles Offices (in conjunction with DMV transactions) during normal hours of operation. Tuesday, June 6, at 5 p.m. is the deadline to apply for an Absentee ballot application by mail, email, fax, or online.

Saturday, June 10, by 5 p.m. is the last day for absentee voting in person.

Voters that do not have an acceptable form of identification may contact the Voter Registrar's Office for a free voter photo ID.
