VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. – Spring is in full swing and Virginia Beach Parks & Recreation is gearing up for warm weather fun with biking and tons of action for kids, adults, and families seeking to lead healthy lifestyles!

Bike to Work with the Mayor
(May 12 | 8 to 9 am | ride departs from Princess Anne Rec Center)
As part of National Bike Month, join Mayor Will Sessoms on a Bike to Work Day ride! With more and more individuals taking advantage of this healthy, sustainable, and economic means of transportation, the Mayor is leading a short ride from the Princess Anne Recreation Center (1400 Nimmo Parkway) to City Hall (2401 Courthouse Drive), approximately 3 miles each way. Participants of all skill levels are welcome! Riders should provide their own bicycle and a helmet.

Bike Rodeo
(May 13 | 10 am to 1 pm | Princess Anne Rec Center)
Bike safety is critically important as the warm weather arrives and school prepares to let out, and Virginia Beach Parks & Rec is here to help. Families are invited to bring their bikes and come out for a day of fun activities with a focus on bicycle safety. Kids can participate in bicycle skill stations, interactive games, bike decorating, and a parade! Check out the Facebook event for more.

Movie in the Pool:
 Secret Life of Pets (May 12 | 6 to 8 pm | all ages | Princess Anne Rec Center)
Mix up your family movie night by taking it to the pool! Come float with us and enjoy a family-friendly favorite. Children under age 9 must be accompanied in the water by a responsible adult, age 16 or older. No additional cost or registration required.

Rock Wall Fun - Get Hooked on Climbing!
(May 12 | 6 to 8 pm | ages 6 & up | Seatack Rec Center | $5)
Bring the family for a heart pumping session of rock climbing on our vertical wall. Assistance will be provided by two belayers who will help climbers traverse the wall. All experience levels welcome! Register online in advance.  

(May 14 | 1 to 4 pm | all ages | Bayside  Rec Center)
Dive in to a great time where we fill the pool with giant floats that you can climb, slide, splash and play on. Experience Claw Daddy, Sky Totter, Space Mountain and more! Children under age 9 must be accompanied in the water by a responsible adult, age 16 or older. No additional cost or registration required.

Beginner Pickleball Night
(May 18 | 6:30 to 8:30 pm | ages 12 & up | Seatack Rec Center)
Get in on the action with pickleball! This extremely popular sport shares the features of other racquet sports, the dimensions and layout of a badminton court and a net and rules similar to tennis, with a few modifications. Fine tune your skills with an experienced instructor or learn the rules and techniques for the first time. All equipment provided and there is no additional cost, but registration is required.

Dodgeball Mania
(May 20 | 12 to 1:30 pm | ages 8 to 13 | Bayside  Rec Center | $7)
Ready, set, DODGEBALL! Dodge, duck, dip, and dive while we play different versions of dodgeball in the gym, and be sure to stay for some tasty pizza and drinks afterwards.  Register online.

Fitness Instructors and Personal Trainer Auditions
(May 11 | 4 to 8 pm | Bow Creek Recreation Center)
Calling all fitness professionals! We are conducting interviews/auditions for certified personal trainers and fitness instructors to fill openings at all of our seven recreation centers. Interested applicants should come dressed in fitness attire with their own music. For full details, check out the Facebook event.

Certified Lifeguard Interviews
(May 12 | 5 to 7 pm | ages 16 & up | Seatack Recreation Center)
Saving lives is no small task! We are searching for certified lifeguards ages 16 & up to fill openings at all of our recreation centers. The interview will consist of three parts: water skills, CPR skills, and verbal question & answer. All of the information to prepare for the interview can be found on the Facebook event.
