Possible Tornado Leaves Trail of Damage in Virginia Beach

Friday, March 31, 2017

As of 6:30 p.m. Friday evening, an estimated 11 homes in the Salem and Rock Creek area of Virginia Beach sustained heavy damage from a powerful thunder storm. A number of homes have been damaged, some significantly. Remarkably, there have been no injuries reported thus far. Approx. 300 homes are without power. Eight families have been displaced and the Red Cross is assisting them.

In addition to the damaged homes, a number of downed trees and flooded streets are making some roads impassable, but crews from both the Department of Public Works and Parks and Recreation are working to clear those trees.
