Friday, March 31, 2017

Wednesday, March 29, 2017, at approximately 5:57 a.m., Emergency Communications received a report of a crash in the 5400 block of Northampton Boulevard near Bayside Road involving a motorcyclist and a SUV.  The motorcyclist was transported to a local hospital with life- threatening injuries.

Immediately after arriving on scene, officers determined that the involved SUV left the scene.  A "be on the lookout" broadcast for the SUV was sent to surrounding jurisdictions as well as the public.

Members of the Fatal Crash Team determined through their investigation that the motorcyclist was traveling west on Northampton Boulevard approaching Bayside Road.  The motorcyclist proceeded through the intersection with a green light.  At the same time, a Lincoln SUV driven by Michael Jones, turned right onto Northampton Boulevard from Bayside Road, directly into the path of the motorcyclist causing the motorcycle to collide with the rear of the SUV.

Through their investigation, officers were led to an apartment complex in Chesapeake where they located the suspect vehicle.

Arrested:  Michael Edward Jones, 38, of the 1900 block of Robert Hall Boulevard, Chesapeake.  Jones has been charged with Felony Hit and Run – Injury, Reckless Driving, License Revoked – Third or Subsequent Offense.  Jones is being held in the Virginia Beach Correctional Center without bond.
