23rd Annual Human Rights Awards Ceremony to be Held April 6 at Convention Center

The Virginia Beach Human Rights Commission will hold its 23rd Annual Human Rights Awards Ceremony on Thursday, April 6 at 7 p.m. at the Virginia Beach Convention Center.

After much deliberation, the commission selected nine honorees. Their efforts promote cultural diversity, social awareness, equal opportunity, and human rights in our community and are a shining example of this year's theme, Beacons of Light at the Beach.

This year's honorees are:

  • Caritas Felices de Hampton Roads
  • Marilyn Castro
  • Loretta Kahn
  • Victoria Sachar-Milosevich
  • NAMI, Virginia Beach (National Alliance on Mental Illness)
  • Nancy Will
  • Virginia Beach Justice Initiative, who will receive the Daniel M. Stone Humanitarian Award
  • Dr. Amelia Ross-Hammond, who will receive the Meyera E. Oberndorf Human Rights for Achievement in Government Award
  • Teens With A Purpose, who will receive the Helen P. Shropshire Human Rights Youth Award
