*Update* VBPD Investigating an Armed Robbery

February 21, 2017 - Virginia Beach Police detectives were able to determine that a robbery did not take place.  This case has been unfounded, and 18-year-old Robert McDaniel III of Virginia beach has been charged with providing fasle information to police.

Virginia Beach Police Detectives are investigating an armed robbery that was reported to have happened on February 02, 2017 at 6:50 a.m. in the 5400 block of Rutledge Road.

A student of a local high school was walking to school when an unknown suspect (also on foot) approached, displayed a handgun and demanded money.  The suspect then ran off, and was last seen headed towards Beaufain Blvd in the Charlestown Lakes neighborhood.  

The student was not injured.

The suspect is described as being a light skinned black male, 5'8-5'10, wearing jeans and black shoes.

Investigators are seeking information in this case. If anyone was in the Charlestown Lakes area this morning and witnessed anything suspicious, please call the Virginia Beach Police Detective Bureau at (757) 385-4101
