The Virginia Beach Human Services Department's Behavioral Health and Wellness Prevention Services Unit is launching the third cycle of "Celebrating Families! " The education group provides instruction that focuses on a healthy lifestyle free from drugs and alcohol. This strength-based, skill-building program supports the entire family with the recovery process to move towards a healthy lifestyle.

The class is free and includes dinner and activities to promote healthy family relationships. The class series will start Tuesday, Feb. 7 and meet every Tuesday evening for 13 weeks at the Renaissance Academy, 5100 Cleveland Road, from 6 to 8 p.m.

Following the family meal, children and parents will participate in an age-appropriate, 90-minute instructional session devoted to a particular theme. Afterwards, family members will be reunited for a 30-minute activity to process what they learned. Topics will include healthy eating, communications, anger management, problem solving skills, facts about alcohol, tobacco and other drugs, the effects of chemical dependency on the family, healthy relationships and goal setting.
