On January 22, 2017 at approximately 9:30 a.m., family members of 29-year-old Monica Lamping reported that they had not been in contact with her since the afternoon of Saturday January 21, 2017.  Lamping was last known to be with her 9-month-old daughter and her 7-year-old son, who are also missing.

Due to the fact that an extended period of time has elapsed since there has been any contact with Monica, this is now being considered as a Missing/Endangered Persons case under suspicious circumstances.

Although they are missing under suspicious circumstances, at this time, there is no information developed in the investigation indicating foul play.

It is believed that Ms. Lamping is operating a green 2002 Jeep Cherokee bearing VA tag# XPU-6357.

Due to the many social media posts and inquiries, investigators are providing the following updates.

  • We are attempting to identify the individual named Chad.  We ask that anyone with information to please call investigators at 757-385-4101.
  • Regarding Ms. Lamping's vehicle being spotted traveling through the Portsmouth Downtown Tunnel.  It is confirmed that Ms. Lamping's Virginia license plate was captured on camera.  Investigators continue to follow any leads that may develop.
  • There is an active, joint investigation involving the Virginia Beach Police Department and the Virginia Beach Fire Department regarding the fire on Sullivan Boulevard.  The Police Department is not releasing any investigative leads that have developed to avoid jeopardizing the integrity of our investigation.

There has been a lot of information that has been released by other sources through social media that has not been verified to be true.  Our investigators will continue to follow any lead provided to us; however, we ask for the media's patience in allowing us to investigate this case and provide information to the public that will enable us to further our investigation and locate Ms. Lamping and her children.

Anyone with information regarding the whereabouts of Ms. Lamping and her child are encouraged to call the Virginia Beach Police Department at (757) 385-5000 or the Virginia Beach Crime Solvers at 1-888-LOCK-U-UP.
