Tallwood Students and City’s Recycling Mascot to Appear in Neptune Festival Parade

Monday, September 26, 2011

The city’s Public Works Waste Management recycling mascot, RC, will be making its way down Atlantic Avenue on Saturday, Oct. 1, as part of the Neptune Festival parade. Tallwood High School students and their parents also have volunteered to march in the parade, take photographs and push recycling carts and collect recyclables to show their support of recycling and waste minimization.

“This is the first year our mascot will march, and festival attendees can learn more about what to recycle and the importance of preserving the earth for future generations,” said Phil Davenport, Interim director of the Department of Public Works. “While many Virginia Beach residents are avid recyclers, there is a need to educate citizens about the benefits of using the blue bins and carts. This Saturday, we hope to accomplish that in a fun way for all to enjoy.”
