Students Honored as Winners of Water Awareness Calendar Contest

Thursday, May 05, 2011

On May 4, the Department of Public Utilities held its annual awards ceremony for the winners of this year’s Water Awareness Calendar Contest. The ceremony in the City Council chamber honored the water-wise artwork of 13 Virginia Beach elementary school students selected from more than 1,000 entries received this year. The winning artists were joined by their families, teachers and school administrators to celebrate their achievement.

The ceremony began with an introduction from Public Utilities Director Tom Leahy, followed by the presentation of award certificates by City Manager James K. Spore. In addition, each winner will receive a $50 savings bond and have their artwork prominently displayed in the 2012 Water Awareness Calendar.

The calendars will be available to the public at Virginia Beach public libraries and recreation centers in October. For additional information, please contact Tiffany Wright with the Department of Public Utilities at (757) 385-4948.
