Closings, Cancellations and Storm-Related Information Announced

​Hampton Roads is expecting a winter storm this weekend, and city officials are monitoring forecasts and making storm preparations. Citizens should prepare for possible rain, snow and ice.

VB311 will operate on Saturday, Jan. 7 and Sunday, Jan. 8 from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. to provide the city's current operating status and facility closures.  To contact this office, call 311 (landlines within city limits) or 385-3111. Please only call 911 in an emergency.


Shelter for Homeless Adults

Shelter for homeless adults is available through the city's Winter Shelter program. Homeless adults in need of overnight shelter Friday through Sunday, Jan. 6-8, need to check in at the Lighthouse Day Support Services Center, 825 18th St., on Friday, Jan. 6, between 5 and 7 p.m. Space is limited. Participants will shelter in place at the participating church through Sunday night. Participants will be dropped off at the Lighthouse Day Support Services Center Monday morning, Jan. 9.

Families with children experiencing homelessness or those at risk of becoming homeless should call the Regional Housing Crisis Hotline at (757) 227-5932.

The Lighthouse Day Support Services Center will not be open this weekend. The center will open on Monday, Jan. 9. Hours of operation are Monday through Friday, 7:15 a.m. to 5 p.m. Day support services end at 3:30 p.m. The Lighthouse Day Support Services Center can be reached at (757) 385-5160.


No Sledding at Mount Trashmore Park

Whenever there is a moderate to significant amount of accumulating snowfall, Virginia Beach Parks & Recreation closes Mount Trashmore Park to all visitors and in the interest of overall citizen safety, Park System Staff enforce "no sledding" and the closure of the Park.


Residents in Mobile Homes/Trailers

Residents in mobile homes and trailers should secure their trailer skirting and insulate their pipes.


​Closings Starting Friday

The Virginia Aquarium's Whales & Wildlife Sea Adventures Boat Trips scheduled for Friday, Jan. 6; Saturday, Jan. 7; and Sunday, Jan. 8 have been canceled. Guests who have purchased tickets in advanced are being notified and will be refunded their full purchase price. The next scheduled trip is at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 11.

Inmates assigned to the Weekender Program, which has been canceled for this weekend, should not report as regularly scheduled Friday evening, Jan. 6. Any questions may be directed to 757-385-1050.

 

Closings Starting Saturday

The Virginia Aquarium will be closed on Saturday, Jan 7.

All Virginia Beach Public Libraries will be closed on Saturday, Jan. 7, including the TCC/City of Virginia Beach Joint-Use Library. (The Joint-Use Library is not open on Sundays).  

All parks and recreation centers will be closed and activities cancelled on Saturday, Jan. 7. Reminder: No sledding at Mount Trashmore

The Virginia Beach Animal C are & Adoption Center will be closed on Saturday, Jan. 7 and Sunday, Jan. 8.

Inmate visitation at the Virginia Beach Correctional Center has been canceled for Saturday, Jan. 7. Any additional cancellations will be shared/posted as they are decided. Visitors also may call the Visitation Lobby at 757-385-4512. In addition, the Weekender Program has been canceled for this weekend and inmates assigned to the program should not report as regularly scheduled Friday evening.
