Archery Demo Day
(Jan 7 | 1 to 3 pm | ages 6 & up - 6 to 16 must have a parent or guardian present | Bayside Rec Center)
Ever wonder if you could shoot a bow and arrow and actually hit the target? Come give it a try! All equipment is provided and no experience is needed; our skilled instructors will show you exactly what to do. For information, email outdoors@vbgov.com or call 385-2990.

Free Fitness Classes & Les Mills Launch Week
(Jan 15-21 | class times and locations vary)
Join us for select FREE drop-in group fitness classes as well as the launch of new choreography for many of our hugely popular Les Mills classes this week. Visit VBgov.com/Fitness for the schedule of free classes and launches being offered. We're also hosting a very special 100th BodyPump launch party on January 21 from 10 to 11 am at Bow Creek Rec Center (space is limited so registration is required to attend that class.)  Membership is not required for these free classes.

Winter Wildlife Festival Exhibit Hall
(January 21 | 10 am to 4 pm | Princess Anne Rec Center)
Registration is still available for all of the incredible excursions and workshops being offered during this weekend of wildlife exploration. We also invite the public to visit our fantastic Exhibit Hall at Princess Anne Recreation Center to speak with our Winter Wildlife Festival partners and exhibitors, including Back Bay National Wildlife Refuge, Department of Game and Inland Fisheries, Lynnhaven River NOW, Virginia Aquarium, Virginia Beach Audubon Society and Virginia State Parks. Visitors will learn ways to get involved with local efforts and find out what environmental groups and businesses are up to. 
Other activities include:

  • Decoy Carvers from the Atlantic Wildfowl Heritage Museum
  • Live Animals
  • Raffle Prizes
  • Mascots
  • Delicious eats from Ferg's Missing Ingredient food truck

Nerf Battle
(Jan 14 | 12 to 1:30 pm | ages 7 to 13 | Bayside Rec Center | $7)

Are you ready for an extreme Nerf competition? Test your accuracy while dodging the competition. There will be inflatable obstacles and missions to complete to become the next Nerf Champion. Pizza and drinks will be served after the competition. Register today!

Family Nite Hike
(Jan 27 | 8 to 9 pm | ages 5 & up | West Neck Natural Area)
Bring your family and a flashlight to explore the park in the dark with us. Hear the sounds of the evening wildlife under the stars on this guided adventure. *Free event; no membership needed, but pre-registration is required. For information, email Outdoors@VBgov.com or call 757-385-4461.

Therapeutic Recreation Sweet Night Dinner & Dance
(Jan 27 | 6 to 8 pm | ages 14 & up | Great Neck Rec Center | $12)
Enjoy a sweet night of dinner and dancing with friends! Registration includes dinner and a keepsake picture. Participants who require 1:1 assistance are welcome with their own assistant/attendant. Attire is semi-formal. Registration is now open.

Winter Adult Pickleball League
If you like tennis or other racket sports, then you're going to love pickleball! Register from January 3-17 for our indoor pickleball league for players ages 18 and up! The season runs through March and games are played on Tuesdays from 9:10  to 11:40 am at Bayside Recreation Center. The cost is $30 per player and recreation center membership or day pass is required to play.

Spring Coed Adult Sand Football
What better way to spend a Sunday morning than down on the beach with your best pals playing a blood-pumping game of sand football? Register January 3 through February 12 for our spring adult league for ages 18 and up. In this non-contact league we offer two levels of competition – beginner/intermediate and advanced. Games are played in two 40-minutes haves, 6 on 6 with a minimum of two females on the field during play. This league is subject to fill before the end of the registration period, so register early to get your team in the action!
