Virginia Beach Moves to New Emergency Alert System; All Users Must Re-Register to Continue Receiving Emergency Messages

Recently, the City contracted with a new vendor, Everbridge, to provide the platform for the City's emergency notification alert and warning system, VBAlert. Originally launched in 2005, VBAlert is a system used to disseminate public safety and emergency-related warnings, and notifications to the public, via a telephone message to their landline phones. It is also a free automated service that delivers important emergency information, such as weather alerts, directly to subscribers' email inbox or mobile device(s). This enables citizens to take immediate action and protective steps to secure their safety and the safety of their family.

Because of this new contract, current subscribers' personal information and password were not transferable. Citizens who want to receive emergency notifications to their cell phone or email, will need to create a new account to receive important information by text or email.
