​​Hurricane Matthew Update at 2 p.m. in Virginia Beach

Community Recovery Center to be Open Monday, Oct. 17, 10 a.m. – 4 p.m.

​The City will continue to operate a community recovery center at Bow Creek Community Recreation Center, 3427 Club House Road, Monday, October 17, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Additional dates and times to be determined. Call (757) 385-3111 for the latest information.

Residents who were impacted by Hurricane Matthew are reminded and encouraged to go to the recovery center to obtain services. If they have questions, they may call (757) 385-3111 for information.

Some Virginia Beach residents still need help. Here's how citizens can assist:

·       Food: Donate non-perishable food at any Virginia Beach fire station from 4 to 7 p.m. Contact the Foodbank of Southeastern Virginia for more information at (877) HUNGERX.

·       Clothes: Donate clothing to the Salvation Army at 2093 General Booth Blvd. or 1136 Lynnhaven Parkway. For more information, visit www.salvationarmyusa.org.

·       Time: Operation Blessing is organizing volunteers to work in the community. If you would like to help, call (757) 284-9183. Volunteers will meet at CBN Corporate Support Building, 977 Centerville Turnpike, Monday through Saturday. Registration is 8 a.m., orientation is 8:30 a.m.

Volunteers should wear rubber boots and long pants for safety. You will be dispatched to work from this location. Operation Blessing will provide everything you need – work assignments, tools and lunch. Please provide your own transportation to and from the work site. No reservations are needed for daily volunteers.
