VB Public Works Announces Landfill to Re-Open This Weekend With Extended Weekend Hours

​The Virginia Beach Landfill & Resource Recovery Center is set to reopen this weekend after a temporary closure due to damage from Hurricane Matthew. 

The landfill will be open on Saturday, October 15, from 7 a.m. until 4:30 p.m.  It will also be open on Sunday, October 16, and Monday, October 17, during the same hours.  

Normal hours are Tuesday through Saturday from 7 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. 

Due to the extensive storm damage, inbound and outbound lanes will be rerouted through the entrance. Delays should be expected, so drivers should be patient and follow the directions of staff on site.

The landfill is located at 1989 Jake Sears Road in Virginia Beach.  .

The Resource Recovery Center is taking all of their usual items including Household Hazard Waste. For more information please call 757-385-1980 or visit www.vbgov.com/landfill.

Items can also be taken to SPSA's Landstown transfer station, located at 1825 Concert Drive in Virginia Beach. They will be extending their hours for Virginia Beach residents over the weekend, from noon until 4 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday. 

Household hazardous waste will be accepted at the Chesapeake transfer station, located at 901 Hollowell Lane on Saturday, October 15 from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. Residents must bring identification.
