Committee Studying Short-Term Online Home Rentals to Meet Oct. 26

Tuesday, October 04, 2016

A committee appointed by the City Council to study short-term online home rentals, like those offered by Airbnb and similar platforms, will meet Wednesday, Oct. 26, at 6 p.m. in the City Council chamber of City Hall, 2401 Courthouse Drive.

The Ad Hoc Committee on Online Home Sharing Economy met Oct. 3 to make preliminary recommendations. The committee will finalize its recommendations at the Oct. 26 meeting, then present them to the City Council on Nov. 1. The council is scheduled to hold a public hearing and vote on the recommendations at its Nov. 15 meeting.

The City Council is concerned about the effects of short-term rentals on residential neighborhoods, including parking, traffic and noise. The state legislature is also studying the issue and may vote on regulations in early 2017.
