177 New Jobs Coming to Virginia Beach With Business Expansions and Relocation

Virginia Beach will soon get 177 new jobs, thanks to four business expansions and one relocation. Today, the Virginia Beach Development Authority approved incentive grants to all five businesses.


Architectural Graphics Inc. Expands Again and Adds 45 Jobs

Total square footage exceeds 320,208

Architectural Graphics Inc. (AGI), founded in 1969, provides signage and other onsite branding solutions for many of the world's leading brands, including General Motors, Ford, Nissan, Mercedes-Benz, Firestone, FedEx, Bank of America, CVS and many others.

The company is headquartered in Virginia Beach at 2655 International Parkway. The company will expand into an additional 50,000 square feet of manufacturing space at 2600 International Parkway. The total square footage in the city will be 320,208. The company also has locations in Atlanta, Knoxville and Cypress, Calif.

The company currently has 580 employees nationwide, with more than 420 employees in Virginia Beach. Within four years of the expansion, 45 new jobs will be added in Virginia Beach, with average annual salaries of $43,000. AGI will also make a $750,000 capital investment in real estate improvements, property and equipment.

The Virginia Beach Development Authority awarded an APZ-1 Economic Development Investment Program grant of $50,000, based on the capital investment because the location is within the YesOceana footprint.


Sunrise Global Marketing to Move Distribution Operations to Virginia Beach

Company leases 218,000 square feet in Oceana West Corporate Park

Sunrise Global Marketing, LLC is the marketing and distribution arm of Globe Tools, a Chinese manufacturer of electric lawn and garden tools and consumer power tools. Headquartered in Mooresville, NC, the company has leased 218,000 square feet of warehouse space at 2600 International Parkway in the Oceana West Corporate Park and will move its distribution operations to Virginia Beach.

The company was started in 2006 and has grown to establish itself as a leader in the outdoor power equipment industry. Major customers are Lowe's, Amazon, Walmart, Target, Menards, Northern Tool and a host of other retailers and e-commerce customers.

Sunrise Global Marketing will create 25 jobs in Virginia Beach. This will be in addition to the 70-plus employees in its U.S. operations and more than 4,000 in Europe, Russia and China.

In 2016, STIHL Inc. purchased a substantial minority share of Globe Tools and made available a portion of the Virginia Beach warehouse that it owns to Sunrise.  The property at 2600 International Parkway, the former Lillian Vernon facility, is 871,000 square feet. In addition to Sunrise Global Marketing, other tenants include Versability, Architectural Graphics, Inc. and Expeditors.

The Virginia Beach Development Authority awarded an APZ-1 Economic Development Investment Program grant of $20,000 based on the $229,000 capital investment in real estate improvements, property, machinery and tools. The location sits within the YesOceana zone.

YesOceana was established in response to the Base Realignment and Closure Commission's recommendation to close Naval Air Station Oceana in 2005. The innovative program moves nonconforming businesses out of APZ-1 and recruits businesses that meet zoning and conformity specifications into the area. It is the only program of its kind in the country, and YesOceana now serves as a model for other localities facing problems with encroachment around air installations.


Anchor Innovation, Inc. Expands Marine Maintenance and Repair Services

Adds 15 new jobs in Virginia Beach

Anchor Innovation, Inc., a service-disabled veteran owned small business with 42 employees nationwide, will expand its small craft maintenance operations in Virginia Beach. As part of the expansion, the company will create 15 new jobs.

In addition to its marine maintenance and repair services, the company provides technical services in consulting, management, repair, maintenance, logistics and operations support to force protection/antiterrorism, port operations and special warfare organizations within the Department of Defense. Anchor Innovation, Inc. was established in 2002 in San Diego and moved its headquarters to Virginia Beach in 2006. It maintains a satellite office in San Diego to support technical and consulting services.

Anchor Innovation, Inc. has purchased 532 Central Drive a 9,432-square-foot building that will support the growth of its small craft maintenance and repair business. Anchor will add technicians and mechanics at the new facility, and the company will also add Navy simulator flight instructors at NAS Oceana. Average salaries for the new personnel will be $80,000.

The Virginia Beach Development Authority approved an Economic Development Investment Program grant of $55,000 based on the number of jobs created. Additionally, Anchor Innovation, Inc. will make a capital investment of $825,000 for real estate, fixtures, equipment, machinery and tools.

Chantel Ray to Launch National Franchise from Virginia Beach

New headquarters and 87 new jobs created with expansion

Chantel Ray, a woman-owned residential real estate company founded in 2011, has announced plans to relocate its corporate headquarters in Virginia Beach and expand to a national franchise operation. The expansion will create 87 new jobs.

The company has purchased 5308 Indian River Road in Virginia Beach, which includes a 3,652-square-foot building. The new location will serve as its national headquarters. The company will continue to operate its other Hampton Roads offices in Virginia Beach, Chesapeake and Newport News.

Chantel Ray currently has 125 real estate agents and 24 salaried employees. It will add 70 new real estate agents and 17 new salaried employees with salaries above $39,117 for the expanded franchise program.

Young Veteran's Brewing Company Expands to 8,000 Square Feet

Five new jobs in Virginia Beach

Young Veteran's Brewing Company, established in Virginia Beach in 2012, will triple the size of its footprint in Virginia Beach. The location at 2505 Horse Pasture Road is currently 2,000 square feet. It will expand by an additional 6,000 square feet, and the company will add five new jobs in the city.

The expansion will include a 750-square-foot tasting room, a 400-square-foot cooler, office space, manufacturing space and storage space.

The brewery was started by two Army veterans with a passion for beer. The brewery hours are Tuesday to Thursday 3 to 8 p.m.; Friday 3 to 11 p.m.; Saturday noon to 11 p.m. and Sunday 3 to 8 p.m. This greatly expanded capacity will allow the brewery to produce its popular Pineapple Grenade, G.I. Pilsner, Semper Fi.P.A., Night Vision and Jet Noise products in canned six-packs, in addition to draft distribution throughout the region.
