Grand Jury Returns 83 Indictments; Two Indicted for Role in Separate Shooting

Harvey L. Bryant, Commonwealth’s Attorney for the City of Virginia Beach, announced that a grand jury meeting in Virginia Beach Circuit Court today returned indictments against 76 individuals charging 186 separate offenses.


Among the defendants indicted today is Lester Ray Belmar Jr., age 28, of the 100 block of Albany Drive in Portsmouth, Virginia.  Belmar is charged with Second Degree Murder, Malicious Wounding, and two (2) counts of Use of a Firearm in connection with a shooting that occurred in a 7-11 parking lot on N. Lynnhaven Parkway in Virginia Beach on May 21, 2011.  


The grand jury returned indictments against Cedric Donta Harrison, age 31, of the 3200 block of Yorkborough Way in Virginia Beach for three (3) counts of Malicious Wounding, Discharge a Firearm in a Public Place, Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon, and three (3) counts of Use of a Firearm. Harrison’s charges stem from a shooting incident in the 300 block of Virginia Beach Blvd on July 4, 2011. 


Two defendants were indicted for felony driving under the influence.  These individuals are:
