VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. – The change of seasons is upon us and Virginia Beach Parks & Recreation is falling for family activities and athletic competition!

Party at the Pier  (Sept 2; rain date Sept 3 | 7 to 10 pm | Little Island Park & Fishing Pier)
Presented by Siebert Realty, we invite you to kick off your shoes and join us for a rockin' country concert in the sand with live music from Buckshot, food trucks, and dancing! Food will be available for purchase from Capt'n Crabby, Get Stuffed, Keep It Poppin' and The Thirsty Frog. Onsite parking is available and free after 5 pm. 

Furry Friends Fest (Sept 17 | 10 am to 1 pm | Bow Creek Recreation Center)
Bring the family - including your furry friends - and come out for carnival games for kids and pets alike! The Virginia Beach Police K-9 Unit and Mounted Patrol will be on-site along with a variety of pet-related vendors. There will be plenty for the kids to see and do at this free event.

Family Movie Night: Zootopia
(Sept 16 | 6:30 to 8:30 pm | all ages | Great Neck Recreation Center)
Enjoy a night of laughs and fun with a movie, games, crafts, and popcorn! Please register ahead of time. 

Forever Young Picnic in the Park
(Sept 21 | 10 am to 1 pm | ages 55 & up | Great Neck Recreation Park | $8)
Come out to one of our City’s most beautiful parks for an afternoon filled with food, friends, games, and gorgeous scenery. Lunch will include barbeque sandwiches, beans, coleslaw and dessert, as well as beverages. Register ASAP!

Family Nite Hike
(Sept 23 | 8 to 9 pm | ages 5 & up | West Neck Natural Area)
Bring your family and a flashlight to explore the park in the dark with us. Hear the sounds of the evening wildlife under the stars on this guided adventure. Free event; no membership needed, but pre-registration is required. For information, email or call 757-385-4461.

Kayak Tour
(Sept 24; rain date Sept 25 | 2 to 4 pm | ages 12 & up | Pungo Ferry Landing Park | $30)
Join us for our first guided tour of the City’s newest water access park! We’ll explore the marshlands that line the sides of the North Landing River under the Pungo Ferry Bridge. Register today to reserve your spot!

Athletic League Registrations

Youth Swim Leagues
(ages 6 to 17)
Virginia Beach Parks & Recreation is now registering for the winter youth swim leagues. Emphasis is placed on swimmer development and FUN in a low-key competitive environment. Each team will swim regular season and championship meets. Space is limited, so sign up today!

Adult Coed Sand Football
(ages 18 & up)
Registration is now open for our fall league through September 12. Sand Football is a non-contact, coed flag league that is played 6 on 6 with a minimum of two female players on the field at a time. Teams may carry up to 15 players. Games consist of two 40-minute halves and are played on the beach at the Oceanfront on Sunday mornings. Both competitive and recreational levels of play are offered. Adult Pickleball
(ages 18 & up)
Grab a paddle and get yourself registered for our double ladder pickleball league by September 12. Games are played on Tuesdays from 9:10 to 11:40 am at Bayside Recreation Center. Visit​ for details and to register.
