Sandler Center Art Gallery Hosts Old Dominion University Student Art Exhibition Beginning May 23

Friday, May 20, 2016

The Sandler Center for the Performing Arts is proud to announce that it will host the Old Dominion University Student Art Exhibition from May 23 to July 28.

The exhibition includes work by student selectees for the 2016 Old Dominion University Undergraduate Research Symposium, which took place on the university's campus in February. Each year, the Honors College hosts a research symposium at which the research activity of selected undergraduate students is showcased. Art is one of the disciplines included in the research symposium.

Faculty mentors provide assistance and mentorship to the students. Faculty in each area of specialty within the art department select one to three students who have excelled at their work and are able to establish a research basis for what they do. Areas represented include drawing, metals, painting, photography, printmaking, sculpture and graphic design. It is a great opportunity for the students to advance their ideas while exposing their work to a larger audience.

The exhibit will be on view in the second- and third-floor lobbies during the Sandler Center's normal operating hours: Monday to Friday, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.; Saturday 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. or during any performance at the Sandler Center.

There will be a free artist reception at the Sandler Center on June 9, from 6 to 8 p.m.  The Art Gallery is on the second and third floors in the common areas of the Sandler Center for the Performing Arts. The reception is made possible by a generous gift from Tom and Juanita Felton to the Sandler Center Foundation.
