UPDATE: Ceremony Location Change for Virginia Beach Annual Memorial Day Ceremony

Due to pending inclement weather, for Monday, May 30, the Annual Memorial Day ceremony will be held inside the Virginia Beach Convention Center, 1000th 19th St., Ballrooms 2 & 3..  There will not be a 21-Rifle Salute nor a flyover as in year's past.

LtCol Wade E. Wallace, USMC to be Keynote Speaker for the Annual Tidewater Veteran’s Memorial Day Ceremony

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. —May 20, 2016 – Join Mayor William D. Sessoms, Jr., LtCol Wade E. Wallace, Executive Officer, Headquarters and Service Battalion, Marine Forces Command, Norfolk, Va. and the Mayor's Veterans Committee as they host the annual Memorial Day Ceremony, Monday, May 30 at noon at the Tidewater Veterans Memorial, 1000 19th Street, across from the Virginia Beach Convention Center.

This annual event is held to honor and pay tribute to the men and women of the armed forces "who gave their all."

As part of the opening ceremony, the Virginia Beach Police Department's Honor Guard Unit-Rifle Team will provide a 21-Rifle Salute, followed by the Invocation given by chaplain, David Yemington, Vietnam Veterans of America, Virginia Beach Chapter 969. The National Anthem and God Bless America will be performed by Tony Zontini of Virginia Beach. Following opening remarks by the Honorable William D. Sessoms, Jr., LtCol Wade E. Wallace will provide the keynote address. Wallace is currently the Executive Officer, Headquarters and Service Battalion, at the U.S. Marine Forces Command, Norfolk, Va. Wallace enlisted in the Marine Corps in August of 1987. He hails from the Bronx, NY.

At the conclusion of the formal service, 1 p.m., there will be a flyover of the magnificent "Warbirds" provided by Jerry Yagen of the Military Aviation Museum.

Military Commands and organizations are invited to bring wreaths to place at the memorial during the formal ceremony on behalf of their command. The public is also invited to attend. Citizens who would like to place an American flag (provided) around the base of the memorial to honor a relative or friend are encouraged to arrive prior to the commencement of the formal ceremony. The flags will remain in place for one week.
