Virginia Beach Re-Launches Mobile-Friendly VBgov.com Website

Redesigned Website Features New Visual Enhancements and Easier Navigation

Monday, May 16, 2016

The City of Virginia Beach today re-launched its official website, VBgov.com. The newly redesigned website has been enhanced significantly to provide a user-friendly experience for city residents and other users. The most important upgrade to the site is the mobile-friendly capabilities. VBgov.com now has increased functionality on all mobile devices.

"The old VBgov site was difficult to use on cell phones and tablets," said Matthew Arvay, the city's chief information officer. "The web development team took a responsive design approach that will provide an optimal viewing and interactive experience for users looking for city services, regardless of the device it's being viewed on."

Visitors to the new VBgov.com site will immediately notice the differences. The site is visually striking, featuring eye-catching photos on the homepage and a more modern appearance. The new site also has a more intuitive layout for easier site navigation.

"The site's 'city services' tab on the homepage links users directly to the most commonly accessed city services, such as those for city council meeting videos and city employment information," said Jason Hall, the web development team lead. "There's also a 'payments' category among the list of city services that has links to departments to pay for various services, such as water bills, property taxes and pet licenses."

And these are just a few of the site's many enhanced features. Most of the site's navigation remains the same, but users may have to create a few new bookmarks. Additionally, the new website features a new quick-search function to help users find what they want faster. Last year, VBgov switched to the Google search engine to generate more reliable and accurate results.

Live online help is available via the live chat function on the homepage, as well as links to the city's social media pages.

"We're working to make the user experience as easy as possible," Arvay said. "The new website is the most recent way that we're demonstrating our commitment to meeting the needs of our citizens."
