Library to Upgrade Computer System; Online Access and Some Resources Limited May 2 to 5

Wednesday, April 27, 2016

In order to continue providing the best possible service to customers, in person and online, Virginia Beach Public Library (VBPL) is upgrading the computer system that manages key services from May 2 to 5. During these dates, access to some library services, including the online catalog, library mobile apps, customer accounts, e-books and other digital materials, will be unavailable; other services are available but may require assistance from library staff.

In order to check out materials or pick up holds from the library between May 2 and 5, VBPL customers will need to have library cards in hand, or a library card stored in a mobile app, as staff will be unable to look up customer accounts. There will also be a five item limit per check out to facilitate the manual processing of materials during the system downtime.

VBPL has adjusted material due dates and hold expiration dates to ensure that none fall within the downtime. No fines or fees will be charged during this period.

Following the early-May upgrade, library staff will tailor the new system, and in June 2016, will launch a new catalog that will be more user friendly, offer more advanced search tools than the current catalog, and feature a more modern look.

For a detailed listing of services affected between May 2 through 5, visit www.VBgov.com/libraries or contact staff at any library location.
