​Pets, Bike Riders and Families: Check Out Virginia Beach Parks & Recreation Spring Events

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. – From Bike Rodeos to canine extravaganzas, Virginia Beach Parks & Recreation invites families to get outdoors and in the Rec Center pools for May events.

K-9 Karnival

May 14 | 10 am - 3 pm | Red Wing Park

Canine lovers and their furry friends are invited to Red Wing Park for a day dedicated to the dogs. Pound puppies to purebreds can come paw-to-paw with numerous canine demonstrations, competitions, displays and more. Businesses also can learn more about becoming an exhibitor.

Bike to Work Day | Ride with the Mayor

May 20 | 8 am

Princess Anne Recreation Center to City Hall

As part of National Bike Month, join Mayor Sessoms on a Bike to Work Day ride! With more and more individuals taking advantage of this healthy, sustainable, and economic means of transportation, the Mayor is leading a short ride from the Princess Anne Recreation Center (1400 Nimmo Parkway) to City Hall (2401 Courthouse Drive) beginning at 8 am.

Bike Rodeo

May 28 | 10 am - 2 pm | Williams Farm Park

In celebration of May as Bike Month, families are invited to Williams Farm Park for a day of fun activities with a focus on bicycle safety. Kids can participate in bicycle skills stations, interactive games, bike decorating and a parade! Remember to bring your children's bicycles and helmets.

Rock Wall Family Fun

May 6 | 6:30 – 8 pm | Seatack Rec Center | ages 6 and up

Challenge the family with a day of rock climbing on the vertical wall. Two belayers will help the climbers up and down, so all experience-levels are welcome. Cost is $4 per participant.

Mommy & Me Mother’s Day Tea Party 

May 7| 1 – 3 pm | Williams Farm Rec Center | all ages

Happy Mother’s Day! Come dressed as your favorite character and join the fun with Mom at this special Mother’s Day Tea Party. Tea, other refreshments and light snacks will be provided. Register by May 4; cost is $6 per participant.

Mother's Day Craft

May 9 | 6:30 – 7:30 pm | Seatack Rec Center | ages 8 – 14

Create an extra special homemade gift for Mom. Supplies will be provided. No additional cost.

Builder’s Bash

May 13 | 5:30 – 7:30 pm | Great Neck Rec Center | ages 7 - 10

Tinkerers unite! Discover a night to take your imagination on a wild ride with Legos, K’nex, Goldie Blox, and other fun building templates. Kits will be provided, but you need to bring the imagination. Pizza and drinks included. Cost is $7 per participant.

Family Movie Night at the Farm

May 13 | 6:30 - 8:30 pm | Williams Farm Rec Center | all ages

Everyone’s invited to a Friday night dinner and a movie on the big screen featuring "The Good Dinosaur" along with pizza and snacks. Cost is $6 per participant.

Float-a-Rama

May 15 | 1 - 4 pm | Bayside Rec Center | all ages

It’s a day of huge, fun floats that are so big the pool is devoted just to them! Enjoy Claw Daddy, Sky Totter, Space Mountain and many more. No additional cost.

Memorable Memorial Day Indoor Picnic

May 27 | 6 - 8 pm | Williams Farm Rec Center | ages 6-12

Bring your favorite brown bag lunch (for dinner) and throw a blanket on the floor. No matter what the weather is outside, we will have sunshine in the room - topped off with bingo and a movie. Drinks and cookies provided. No additional cost.

Movie Night in the Pool: Goosebumps

May 27 | 6 - 8 pm | Princess Anne Rec Center | all ages

Enjoy a special feature while floating in the pool. Those ages 9 and under must be directly supervised by someone age 16 or older. No additional cost.
