Virginia Saves Week: Set a Goal, Make a Plan, Save

​In conjunction with the Mayor’s Challenge for Financially Fit Families, Mayor William D. Sessoms, Jr. has issued a Proclamation for Virginia Saves Week (February 22 -27, 2016) challenging all citizens of Virginia Beach to make savings a priority and to take advantage of opportunities to increase savings for emergencies, home ownership, retirement or education.

Virginia Saves, a local campaign of America Saves, challenges all citizens to make a commitment to grow their savings. In partnership with the Financial Planning Association, Virginia Saves is offering three free webinars this week to help citizens organize their financial portfolio.

  • Building Blocks of Retirement Security  - Feb 23, 6:30-7:30 p.m.
    The average American may be facing 30 or more years in retirement. Early planning can make all the difference in the quality of life you enjoy in retirement. Take action to take care of the future YOU!  Topics include Social Security planning, different retirement savings vehicles and tax advantages, and retirement distribution planning.  Speaker: Lamont Henry, CFP®
  • Jumpstart Your Financial Plans With Your Tax Refund - Feb 24, 6:30-7:30 p.m.
    Refund season is here. For many Americans, the tax refund is the largest influx of cash received during the year. Using these funds to advance your financial goals can help you grow opportunity for yourself and your family. This webinar presents five key strategies you can use to employ your tax refund to its maximum benefit.
  • Taking Control: A Financial Planning Starter Kit - Feb 25, 6:30-7:30 p.m.
    Getting started on your financial plan is not as hard as it seems. Financial planning allows you to get control of your monthly cash flow, reduce debt and build savings for your future. This webinar provides eight steps to taking control of your finances. You will learn about budgeting, spending plans, setting goals, managing debt and more.

All webinars are offered as a partnership between Virginia Saves, Military Saves, Tidewater Community College Military and Veterans Center, and the Financial Planning Association of Hampton Roads, working with the City of Virginia Beach Human Services Department, to give savers the tools they need to grow savings and plan for their future needs.
