Virginia Beach Public Works Storm UPDATE

Saturday, January 23, 2016

Virginia Beach Public Works has increased the number of trucks to treat the city’s bridges, overpasses and “black ice” on the primary roads this evening from 8 to 16 trucks.  They will run throughout the night until 8 a.m. Sunday morning when a weather update will allow officials to make a decision for the day shift.

Public Works began sending trucks out Saturday at 1 p.m., with eight trucks going out throughout the city to treat the bridges, overpasses and ramps.  They continued throughout the afternoon, and an additional eight crews were called in at 6 p.m. to join the effort.

There have been some reports of some minor flooding throughout the day, primarily in the usual low-lying areas in Virginia Beach:  Lynnhaven Colony, Bay Colony, Baltic and 28th Street, certain areas off Shore Drive and in Sandbridge.   Public Works will continue to monitor the situation as well as the roads and streets throughout the day Sunday.
