Free Library Classes, Resources Help Residents “Live Simply”

Friday, January 29, 2016

Managing finances, organizing paperwork, eating healthily on a budget – all are steps toward living a simpler, less stressful life. And all are among topics covered in more than 60 free classes offered by Virginia Beach Public Library. Part of a yearlong campaign called “Live Simply,” the classes will be offered at most VBPL branches. Topics vary by date and location.

The goal of the “Live Simply” series is to connect residents with unbiased financial resources and information at their public libraries. VBPL is integrating personal finance into day-to-day issues such as beating clutter, options for healthy eating, as well as offering “life event” workshops on retirement planning, financing higher education, managing family dynamics, changes to marital status and more. “Live Simply” is funded by a $66,100 grant from the Financial Industry Regulatory Authority Investor Education Foundation and the American Library Association “Smart investing@your library®” initiative.

The grant was received on behalf of VBPL by the Virginia Beach Library Foundation, a 501c3 certified public charity whose mission is to secure, manage and invest publicly raised funds, gifts and bequests in support of Virginia Beach Public Library.

Residents can visit the website, www.VBLiveSimply.com, to find links for upcoming events, as well as free online modules and resources, including budget worksheets and more.
