Virginia Beach Parks & Recreation Offers Free Events to Kick-Off the New Year Right

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. – As we head into 2016, many are thinking about resolutions to get fit, focus on their health, and maybe even start new hobbies. Virginia Beach Parks & Recreation is celebrating its 60th anniversary this year and wants to be even more a part of our community’s fit-focused lives. To do so, we’ve got several special offerings going on…in addition to our incredible system of parks, athletics leagues, childcare options, and other recreational activities and events.

 

Virginia Beach Parks & Recreation Open House (January 10 | 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. | All Virginia Beach Recreation Centers)
Thinking about joining a gym to start the New Year? Virginia Beach Parks & Recreation is hosting its annual Open House event with a special twist. Enjoy free access to all Virginia Beach Recreation Centers, that will include fitness demonstrations, facility tours, children's activities, sports and athletic demos all at no cost…AND as a kick off to our 60th anniversary, new and expired members can purchase an annual adult or senior resident membership for just $60! Les Mills Group Fitness Class Launches (Various dates and recreation center locations throughout January)
January brings brand new choreography to many of our Les Mills group fitness classes such as BodyStep, BodyPump, BodyFlow, and CXWorx! Join us for these free launch classes throughout the month at our recreation centers. Membership or day pass is not required, so bring a friend! Winter Wildlife Festival Exhibit Hall (January 30 | 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. | Princess Anne Recreation Center)
Registration is still available for all of the incredible excursions and workshops being offered during this weekend of wildlife exploration, but we also invite the public to visit our fantastic Exhibit Hall at Princess Anne Recreation Center to speak with our Winter Wildlife Festival partners and exhibitors, including Back Bay National Wildlife Refuge, Department of Game and Inland Fisheries, Lynnhaven River NOW, Virginia Aquarium, Virginia Beach Audubon Society and Virginia State Parks. Visitors will learn ways to get involved with local efforts and find out what environmental groups and businesses are up to. Other activities include:
• Children's activities at Princess Anne Library
• Decoy carvers from the Atlantic Wildfowl Heritage Museum
• Live animals
• Raffle prizes
• Delicious eats from a local food truck
