VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. – As the days grow shorter and the temperatures dip, Virginia Beach Parks & Recreation has what you need to prevent those winter blues and keep you moving and engaged! Whether you’re a family with children, a single adult, or an active senior, we welcome you to get involved with our incredible community.

Free and open to the public:

Santa’s Stocking Old Fashioned Craft Bazaar (November 7 & 8 at Princess Anne Recreation Center | November 21 & 22 at Williams Farm Recreation Center | 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturdays; 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Sundays)
Now in its 37th year, this event features over 100 different craft vendors each weekend. Crafters will be selling unique handmade items, everything from stocking stuffers to fine works of art, all at budget-friendly prices. Santa will also be making his very first stop in Virginia Beach at the event, so bring the kiddos! Check out the Facebook events for more information.

 

Sports League Registrations:

Winter Youth Basketball (October 31 & November 7 | Times and locations vary | Ages 10 to 18)
Sign your kids up to take their shot at learning more about the fundamentals of the great game of basketball, teamwork, and sportsmanship. Games start in early January and run through March 2016. Get information about registration locations and times based on where you live.

 

Adult Basketball and Coed Volleyball (November 9 to 23)
Gather your squad and get ready to compete! Team registration starts November 9 for our adult basketball and volleyball leagues, and can be done at the City-Wide Athletics office or online during the signup period. The season will run from early January to late March 2016. Click here for more information on how to get your team into the game.

 

Events and activities that require a recreation center membership or day pass unless otherwise noted:

Float-a-Rama (November 1 | 1 to 4 p.m. | All ages | Great Neck Recreation Center)
It’s a day of huge, fun floats in our awesome indoor pool. Enjoy Claw Daddy, Sky Totter, Space Mountain and many more! No additional cost or registration required.

 

Adult Dodgeball Tournament (November 14 | 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. | Ages 18 & up | Williams Farm Recreation Center)
Ready, set, DODGEBALL! Teams of 7 players will compete in a double elimination-style tournament for glory. No additional cost or registration to participate.

 

Who Am I: Pajama Day (November 18 | 10 to 11:30 a.m. | Ages 5 & under | $6 | Bow Creek Recreation Center)
Using your imagination is always an exciting adventure! This monthly, themed costume event encourages kids to have fun dressing up and thinking outside the box. November’s theme is Pajama Day, and there will be a craft project, play time, and a snack. Register here!

 

Turkey Treadmill Team Ten Miler (November 21 | Noon to 2 p.m. | Ages 18 & up | $6 | Bow Creek Recreation Center)
In preparation for your Thanksgiving feast, join us for our first Turkey Treadmill Ten Miler. Each team will have four members that will run in 800 meter increments to reach the ten mile goal. Run, jog, or walk – it’s up to you! Sign up today.

 

The Crafty Gator: Squirrel Feeder (November 21 | 9:30 to 10:15 a.m. | Ages 5 to 12 | Great Neck Recreation Center)
Are your kids creative and crafty? Sign them up to make a squirrel feeder out of a corn cob to feed these furry friends during the cold winter months.  All supplies will be provided and there is no additional cost to register.
