Annual SkillQuest Art Show – Oct. 3 to Nov. 16

Free Dessert Reception Nov. 16, Includes Silent Art Auction of Older Art and a Buy it Now Sale of New Work

​Several hundred new pieces of art completed by the SkillQuest Program participants are now on display in the Fleming Gallery at the Virginia Museum of Contemporary Art. The exhibit opened Saturday, Oct. 3, and will continue through Monday, Nov. 16. SkillQuest has partnered with MOCA to exhibit the artwork of participants with intellectual disabilities for almost two decades.

On Monday, Nov. 16, from 6 to 8 p.m. the artists will be on hand to meet and greet the public at the annual “More than a Window” dessert reception. This free event will include:

  • Silent Art Auction of older art pieces
  • Buy it Now Sale of new works, which include paintings, pottery and mixed media
  • Seaside Sundries Boutique featuring many new kinds of beautiful handmade items available for purchase for the first time.
  • Musical performances by Skip Friel, a popular local musician.

Only cash or checks will be accepted for the purchase of items. While not required, reservations are requested at (757) 385-4040.


The Virginia Museum of Contemporary Art is located at 2200 Parks Ave. Museum hours are Tuesday 10 a.m. to 9 p.m., Wednesday to Friday 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., Saturday and Sunday 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.  On Mondays from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., the SkillQuest Exhibit is the only open exhibit. It is always free.


Admissions to the Main Galleries (Tuesday through Sunday) is $7 for adults, $5 for military, seniors and students, and free for children ages 4 and under.


All artwork and Seaside Sundries products are handmade by individuals at SkillQuest, a day activity program for adults with intellectual disabilities. Administered by the city’s Department of Human Services, Developmental Services Division, SkillQuest provides training and support in the areas of communication, socialization, academics, independent living, gross and fine motor development, behavior management, leisure skills and community exploration.
