Everyone Needs a Plan

Register Now for Fifth Annual Virginia Beach Financial Planning Day

Tuesday, October 06, 2015

No matter who we are, all of us are on a path that is either leading us toward our financial goals or preventing us from moving forward. As with any important journey, planning is critical to success. Whether you are just starting out or preparing for retirement, the City of Virginia Beach and the Financial Planning Association of Hampton Roads invite you to participate in the fifth annual Financial Planning Day on Saturday, Nov. 7, from 8:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Virginia Beach Convention Center, 1000 19th St.

Don’t miss this opportunity for a free, private consultation with an expert on a wide variety of personal finance issues including budgeting, debt management, retirement planning, investment strategies, and estate planning, among many others. The event will also feature a series of free classroom-style workshops addressing key financial planning topics, including building credit, paying for higher education, retirement planning, military and veterans planning and planning basics for single parents. Resource partners such as FDIC, IRS, TSP and more will be on site with free information and handouts to help you accelerate your financial plans. Experts will help you obtain an estimate of retirement savings needed and review your annual credit report. A complete listing of workshops and resource partners is available at FinancialPlanningDays.org/virginiabeach.

There are no strings attached. Financial experts such as Certified Financial Planner™ professionals, credit counselors, career counselors, and accountants volunteer their time and expertise to meet one-on-one with participants. They will not sell products or services, give out business cards or collect your personal information. They are there to answer your questions and help you build your plan. Pre-registration is encouraged and a little preparation will help you get the most out of the day.

  • Reserve your space now by registering at www.vbgov.com/fpd or call Lori Irwin at (757) 385-3551.
    • While on the site, refer to the Financial Planning Topics to learn more about topics and questions you can address with financial planners. Make a list of your questions.
    • Bring relevant financial documents and a snapshot of your current financial situation. For a list of useful resources and tools to help you prepare, including customizable financial planning worksheets, refer to the Resources page.

As part of the Virginia Beach Mayor’s Action Challenge, Financial Planning Day is organized by the Human Services Department in partnership with the Financial Planning Association of Hampton Roads.

Financial Planning Day is a national outreach initiative of the Certified Financial Planner Board of Standards, the Financial Planning Association, the Foundation for Financial Planning and the United States Conference of Mayors.
