Virginia Beach Minority Business Council 20th Anniversary Conference, Expo and Luncheon Set for Nov. 5

Dennis Kimbro, Internationally Renowned Author and Business School Professor, to Speak

Wednesday, September 30, 2015

The Virginia Beach Minority Business Council will celebrate its 20th anniversary with an annual conference, expo and luncheon themed, "Creating Opportunity, Fostering Innovation.” It will be held Thursday, Nov. 5, at the Westin Virginia Beach Town Center. The luncheon will start at noon; the expo will begin at 2 p.m.

This year’s keynote speaker will be noted educator, author and business school professor Dennis Kimbro.

One of the most insightful and scholarly writers in the field today, Kimbro encourages people to look within themselves to extract the keys that underlie all accomplishment. His work has motivated the boards of General Motors, Walt Disney Corp., Frito-Lay and Citigroup, to name a few. He has appeared in many national publications and TV shows, and is a professor at Clark Atlanta University.

At the luncheon, the Minority Business Council will honor former City Councilwoman Louisa Strayhorn and recognize the contributions of past MBC chairs Shewling Moy, Ed Hamm, Sylvia Strickland Primm, Prescott Sherrod, Delceno Miles, Wanda Cooper and Carla Bailey.  They helped the Minority Business Council become a leading influence in connecting contractors with opportunities in Virginia Beach and beyond.

A few event sponsorships are still available. Individual luncheon registrations are $45 per person plus a small processing fee, but pre-registration is required. For sponsorship information, please contact Lavera Tolentino at (757) 385-4438.

Admission to the expo is free and open to the public. To register and to purchase luncheon tickets, visit For more information, contact Sharon Foster or Lavera Tolentino at (757) 385-4438.
