Road Improvements for Blackwater Road to Begin on Thursday, September 17, 2015

​Public Works has announced that road improvement work will begin this week on Blackwater Road (north and south bound) from the Chesapeake city line to the North Carolina line.   Work will begin on Thursday, September 17, 2015, and is scheduled to be completed by November 2, 2015.

The project will include milling, paving and pavement marking, and work will be between the hours of 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. each day.  Because of the length of this road the City will be performing the milling/paving in stages.

Phase 1:        Pocaty Bridge to Land of Promise Road
Phase 2:        Land of Promise Rd to Pungo Ferry Road
Phase 3:        Pungo Ferry Road to Indian Creek Road
Phase 4:        Indian Creek Road to North Carolina Linef any weekend work is needed, the work hours will be between 7 a.m. – 5 p.m.

The project and the milling and paving operation is likely to produce traffic delays, congestion and some construction noise.  Advanced warning signs will be clearly posted advising motorists of lane closures.

Citizens are urged to use alternate traffic routes when possible.

All scheduled work is weather permitting.
