Commonwealth v. Michael Scott McCann; Jury Sentences Man to Life in Prison for Molesting Child

Tuesday, September 15, 2015

Colin D. Stolle, Commonwealth’s Attorney for the city of Virginia Beach, announced that Michael Scott McCann, 35 years old, formerly of the 700 block of Biltmore Drive in Virginia Beach, Virginia, was found guilty of Object Sexual Penetration following a two-day jury trial.  The jury fixed his punishment at life in prison, which is mandatory based upon the charge and age of the victim. Circuit Court Judge A. Bonwill Shockley, who presided over the trial, will formally sentence McCann on January 26, 2016.

The Commonwealth’s evidence proved that between June 15, 2014, and September 22, 2014, Michael Scott McCann sexually molested a child known to him.  Sometimes he gave the child money and lottery tickets to get the child to allow him to do this.  The child disclosed the abuse to a trusted adult, who immediately reported it to the police.  McCann denied the abuse.

McCann has prior convictions for Forgery, Uttering, and Petit Larceny.
