New Athletic Field & Tennis Court Lighting System

All unmanned sites’ lighting will be controlled wirelessly by Virginia Beach Parks & Recreation City-Wide Athletics

Tuesday, September 13, 2011

Changes are coming to Virginia Beach's lighted athletic fields and tennis courts!

Tennis courts are being upgraded with a new lighting system that will allow patrons to turn on the lights at the court upon arrival. Lights will be available sunset to 11:00 pm, seven days a week until November 30, except for year-round sites. Patrons will be able to activate the court lights during the scheduled time by pushing a button located near the court entrances. Lights will remain on for 55 minutes, at which time a strobe light (located above the button) will activate as a warning. If the button is not pushed within 5 minutes, the lights will turn off and require 15 minutes before coming back on.

Athletic field lighting will be programmed to function automatically, at specified times according to Recreation Association and City League practices, games, and/or rentals.

At all of these unmanned sites, field and court lighting will be controlled wirelessly by City-Wide Athletics in coordination with 15-city sponsored Area Recreation Associations and the Virginia Beach School Board, respectively.

If you have any questions about using the new lights, please call the City-Wide Athletics Office, Monday - Friday, 8 am – 5 pm at 757-385-0458.
