Virginia Beach teens to perform original songs as part of Hip Hop 2015: And the Youth Will Lead Us

Thursday, August 13, 2015

(Virginia Beach, VA) – Over the past eight weeks, Virginia Beach Parks & Recreation has led 16 teens through the Hip Hop 2015: And the Youth Will Lead Us program at Williams Farm Recreation Center. With a passion for hip hop music, they have learned about the culture and five elements of which it is comprised: emceeing, DJ-ing, B-boying, graffiti, and knowledge. The program comes to a memorable end at The Big Reveal on Thursday, August 20, from 6 to 7:30 p.m. at Newtown Elementary School (900 Newtown Road) when the teens will perform original songs they have written and recorded themselves.

Family, friends, and members of the community are invited to join us and be entertained as the teens from each element present what they have learned. There will be special performances by the two groups of teens from the emcee element. The first group, The Unexplained will be performing their song, “Cam Up From Nothing.” The second group calls themselves S.I.P. (Stuck in Purgatory) and will reveal their song, “Problems.”

Both songs will also be played on 103 Jamz on Sunday, August 23rd on the DJ Jack of Spade show. Videos from last year’s program and Big Reveal performance can be viewed on Virginia Beach Parks & Recreation’s YouTube page.
